The
update log page is devoted to inform of potential plans and changes. Under no
circumstance is the blog ever abandoned.
February 7, 2024
Got a bit of housecleaning to do! Cleaned up the Windows 9x KernelEx list, installed VirtualPC 2007 SP1 and gonna get testing as soon as possible. Unofficial parties have backported modern Chrome onto our beloved Windows XP and Vista systems. :)
January 14, 2023
It seems the workaround to blogspot not resizing an image properly no longer works. I am seeking a fix before I continue to publish more items.
January 9, 2023
Noticed the resources pages got unpublished. I'll try to get that reviewed and fixed.
November 13, 2022
Got a few things planned. I need to add the last working version of flash player, a few bluetooth stack drivers (Windows Vista especially needs it for file transfer between mobile devices and PC), updated (modified) versions of the Chinese Chromium browsers, add a few working softwares (Balabolka, art software, image viewers, Windows Media Player Classic-HC, OpenVPN for XP, legacy update) to the Windows XP and Vista lists, publish an NT 4.0 and 95 working list of software, link to useful sites, and a few others. I also need to revise a post that was removed (Rufus).
May include notetaking software that even works on Windows 95 as a bonus! It's always handy to take notes. ;)
If I can get my hands on a Haswell, I will try including a Windows XP/Vista driver bundle!! It is the last platform that officially supports the two.
May 24, 2022
Just a little reminder that I'm not dead. ;)
Life has just gotten a bit busy. OpenVPN for XP will be posted as soon as I have the time >3<
December 2, 2021
I am currently looking into the issue of the thumbnails not showing up correctly on the homepage. Unfortunately, changing the code has not shown to be effective with the issue and will require further research.
The fix I've found worked on a dummy blog, but I still need to figure out why the same fix does not seem to work here.
EDIT: Fix found. Upload an image to a blogger image widget, then upload from a URL there. Also, do not use captions on your photos. Doing so will ruin the thumbnail and require you to make a new post.
November 27, 2021
Alright, I just need to figure out why blogspot is causing the SamutraPDF image for Windows 98 to look strange on the first page.
This issue is likely related to Google's change in image hosting, and may require further looking into.
It's been a while because I've been occupied with work. I have yet to update and add new additional software and respond to emails:
-360Chrome (Chromium 86 version modified to removed telemetry)
-Mini Chrome (Chromium 86 browser from Chinese hobbiest group)
-Firefox 46 for Windows 98SE/ME (will include tutorial video)
-KernelEx fixed automated installer
-Youtube downloader for Windows 98SE/ME (requires KernelEx)
-A few more items not on my mind at the moment
I hope to continue contributing to extending the lifespan of Windows XP. ;)
April 4, 2021
Happy Easter!
Added PROBLEMCHYLD's Service Pack 3.66 for Windows 98SE! Be sure to donate to him here (Bitcoin):

My love of Windows shall never die off! :)
Automated KernelEx coming soon along with a youtube downloader for Windows 98/ME!

Back from the abyss of college classes!
January 1, 2021
Happy New Year with plenty of Windows XP software upcoming! ;)
December 26, 2020
Merry late Christmas! It's going to be yet another happy new year with Windows. ;)
December 17, 2020
Phew! It's been a while since I've posted on the logs! Been rather quiet with providing updated software.
If things go as planned this weekend, I should be able to test a XPS 8700's capability with Windows XP and share the drivers! :)
I will also be able to test DirectX 11 wrappers for Windows XP as well with this computer. I may need to get sharing a working Intel HD 4600 graphics for Windows XP.
September 19, 2020
A new update after another month! Phew, time can surely fly.
On the MSFN forums, Windows Vista unofficially has a KernelEx available. However, I cannot provide the files due to legal reasons. The thread is available here.
Also, Windows Vista updates are all made available here.
Now, I need to be getting to including NT 3.51 system updates on the site...
August 6, 2020
It seems Microsoft killed off Windows Update for Windows XP and Vista. But no worries! Community is always working on preserving the updates. Here is a list compiled by Mcinwwl.
July 18, 2020
Continuing to hopefully update the software compatibility lists. Just compiled one for Windows 98/ME here as a WIP. I will get to adding it on the site once I polish it a bit.
July 12, 2020
Back yet again! This time with some backported software for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. I have not posted extended kernels besides the Windows 2000 one because I haven't gotten a chance to test them yet. Each operating system is quite unique despite being derivatives of each other. Soon, I might be able to play around with NT 4.0. :)
Windows 7 probably joined the list of retro OSes because Microsoft discontinued it long ago, but it's clear that even the XP series ain't gonna die any time soon. XP still reigns strong even after six years of discontinuation. Keep a close eye on the win-raid forums as well; there is always Windows XP driver development going on there!
On the other hand, I've been getting into digital art, so hopefully I can go beyond and eventually doodle Windows ME OS-Tan. ;)

June 23, 2020
Back after another month! Phew school was difficult, but times are free again! Before I forget, I should note that some Windows 2000 and XP dll's are indeed compatible with KernelEx. Some ReactOS files are also compatible. NT 4.0 files have never been tested with KernelEx.
May 27, 2020
I was not available to post as often this month, but hopefully that should change by next month! Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7 are still well alive. :)
Today, a Windows 9x enthusiast has modified AC97 drivers for Windows 95!

April 30, 2020
Man, managing a schedule can sure be difficult!
The unofficial NVIDIA driver for Windows 98/ME now has the manual version available in case systems cannot use installer properly.
April 18, 2020
The world of legacy Windows is just cartoonishly overshadowed. File fixes, updated ACPI.sys for Windows 2000, backported flash player 10 for Windows 98, backported drivers, and quite a lot of programs. We all know deep down that Microsoft could've made Windows 95 as modern as Windows 10 if they continued the effort. ;)
Hopefully, I'll get around to sharing my KernelEx dll collection with compatibility for VLC 3.0.0. :)
April 11, 2020
Today, I fixed the download for the Windows 98 USB drivers. It appears I made a mistake a while back and forgot to include the 98SE driver as well. I also discovered the website for the original driver disappeared. So, I might try backing up the other language variants of the driver.
April 7, 2020
I am just amazed at how far this website has come along since its beginning days. Thank you all for providing me my first daily 2000 views! All of you mean a lot to me. :)
You all make me happy and are the reason I devote myself to countless hours of testing and searching software on the web. I feel I've also come a long way from the beginning as well. Every day is another motivation for me to continue diving into obscure websites and attempting to revive the software. :)
About to publish rloew's File64 emulator as well. ;)
April 6, 2020
Fixed the broken links for the Universal Windows XP ACHI drivers.
Also, I was very surprised to receive my first donation today. If
you (the first donor) are reading this, I want to let you know I am very
appreciative of you! Always feel free to contact me for support and help with
the Windows OS. :)
April 5, 2020
I've spent the past week or so tinkering with KernelEx. For
extended compatibility, feel free to install this bundle.
Be sure to follow all instructions because modifying Windows can break the
system! They are not yet included on the KernelEx updates download file because
they are a WIP!
April 2, 2020
In the progress of testing software and attempting to modernize
Windows 9x. Just discovered a triple pack of NTFS reader, UDF, and mounting for
Windows 98/ME. Gotta love writing to NTFS partitions! :)
Also, I'm not sure when I will make lists for final working versions of software for Windows 9x, NT 4.0, 2000, and KernelEx 9x available. But, I know I will eventually. I'm multi-tasking a bit too much; ended up breaking a Windows 2000 installation on a physical computer by installing AHCI incorrectly.
Lastly, I just realized the developer's website for the unofficial Windows ME service pack went missing...this is the importance of backup and preservation!
March 19, 2020
I finally removed the broken 'Contact us' page. Also fixed the
slide menu's to include icons. :)
In addition, I compiled a list of final working software for Windows XP on the resource menu's slider. It's time for me to test software again.
February 19, 2020
Sorry
for the lack of updates! Life had gotten rather busy yet again. There is still
an abundance of software and drivers that have yet to be included on this
website!
January
18, 2020
Roytam1
has fixed TCPMP's compatibility issue with Windows 95! Enjoy ;)
January 17, 2020
Enjoy
MP4 on Vanilla Windows 98! TCPMP is by far the best option for a Vanilla 98/ME
system! :P
January
2, 2020
Happy
New Year! My goal to revive these mature systems never fades away. I recall
getting my first Windows XP laptop back in 2014. Good times of being saved by
the portable XP on me.
My
life has been rather busy again, but the life of this site is only beginning.
:)
November 27, 2019
Got a
youtube channel up and running! The channel will serve to mostly tutorials. ;)
November 21, 2019
It
appears someone reported the 64gb ram patch for Windows XP for unknown reasons.
Because of that, one of the download links are broken, for now.
November
9, 2019
Got a
lot of posts to publish!
November
4, 2019
DirectX
10 still needs testing...I'm questioning whether it's worth sharing due to its
inconsistency.
In other news, I will be bringing modded Windows 7/8/10 Intel HD Video Drivers. ;)
October 31, 2019
Happy
Halloween! ;)
Trick-or-Treat!
The treat here will be more software! Absolutely zero tricks! Now, time to get
DirectX 10 on Windows XP once and for all!
October 30, 2019
I've
been spending hours slacking off my Calculus III homework, so I may as well
post a status update.
I've
discovered a wonderful amount of modded drivers for low-end PC's, backported
Window 7 drivers, potential modern Windows Vista web browsers, and another
Chinese Chromium XP web browser! I can soon share them along with a Pro One
Calculus software ISO (company completely defunct).
Happy
Early Halloween! ;)
October
27, 2019
It's
refreshing to return and post a couple new softwares. I just need to get back
into the habit of posting weekly! Testing all sorts of mods is quite fun!
I may
potentially mention Linux occasionally but very rarely (very unlikely to
provide any Linux software). I prefer Windows by far but sometimes dual-booting
Windows and a very slim Linux distro can be the only thing to allow your old
Pentium M laptop stream video online at all. ;)
Linux
is an extremely useful solution in case of a broken Windows installation!
Also,
there has been some extremely useful video driver mods for a Windows 10 driver
to work on 7!
October 24, 2019
I'm
indefinitely busy working on a college course, but I'm never dead! I just gotta
continue working until I get enough spare time to include more XP system
patches and a detoxified version of 360 Chrome (Chromium 69). Windows 9x
patches too will come eventually.
October
4, 2019
Some
great news! I've obtained a Dell Precision T3400 at a garage sale for ten
bucks. Once I obtain a DVI-D to HDMI converts, I can experiment with Windows 9x
on the machine!
September
24, 2019
Hmmm,
I haven't been as active as I should be...life has become rather busy again, so
I may not post much for a while.
So
far, I'm deciding whether specific patches should be posted.
August
26, 2019
Just
testing more software as usual! Trying to figure out issues I'm having with the
Chrome Tool and KernelEx for Windows 2000; neither seem to work for me!
August
22, 2019
Phew,
finally fixed the autopatcher page. I was shocked to discover the download was
invalid!
After
some emails with Pulse, I'm beginning to question how to obtain Odyssey Client
4.52...
Today
is the 100th post of Retro System Revival! Now, it's time to get that number up
to 250!
August
18, 2019
The
bunch of Chinese web browsers I found will not work on XP/Vista, they require
Windows 7 at minimal. Right now, I'm debating whether I should include these
browsers or not.
On
the other hand, enjoy USB 3.0 for Windows XP (AMD Motherboards only!).
August
7, 2019
I've
stumbled upon a gold mine of Chinese web browsers that may retain Windows XP
support! ;)
Stay
in tuned for a potential backport of Chromium 74 onto Windows XP!
July
28, 2019
After
a dumb mistake on my part, my main PC's OS was destroyed. For now, I'm posting
on my older laptop with Windows Vista!
July
23, 2019
Finally
back. Soon, I will implement new KernelEx 21 and 22 updates by jumper. ;)
June
26, 2019
Darn
it! My
laptop charger broke, so I gotta order a new one. It's frustrating because I
was just about to test Windows Vista software! But, I still have my VMWare
machines, so not all is lost.
June
24, 2019
Summer
has finally arrived, so I have plenty of time to continue adding useful
software onto this site. The fight against Windows XP's death rages on!
June
12, 2019
My
summer is almost here! Once my studies are done, it's gonna be summer fun time
on this blog! I still have at least 80 different software that still requires
documentation, testing, and polishing before I can publish!
June 7, 2019
The
weekend is here and it's time for new software! Hope you guys enjoy the x86
Windows Vista/7/8/10 Ram Patch!
It's
crazy how much freeware exists in the most obscure parts of the internet!
And I
finally reached 70 posts ^o^
Time
to make that number 100, then 200, and then 500 ;)
June
1, 2019
Finally,
it's time to experiment with Windows 2000 ;)
I
hope to cover these soon:
The
Chrome Tool
Blackwingcat's
Kernel32 w/ required updates
XPAPI
for W2K (Obsolete; may not arrive)
Provide
documentation and screenshots for Boingo wireless, Windows OS Spoofer, and
other W2K software.
Perhaps
introduce a tutorial to installing Chromium on Windows 2000
Windows
9x and XP will continue to receive backported and updated software when
possible. A goldmine of customized drivers exists for these OSes. ;)
Currently,
experimenting with my Thinkpad R60 laptop with Windows ME. It's about 80%
complete but instabilities and missing drivers still need to be worked on!
I've
barely even touched Vista/7/8/10 on this site. Many plans for customization,
optimization, system patches, utilities, web browsers, and
custom/backported/optimized drivers are planned for these operating systems!
I
also plan to add more menu options, in general, considering the newer labels
when more software is introduced. Simply looking at one tag is becoming
clustered.
Another
blog covering further instruction on tutorials is being considered. Perhaps
I'll make videos on how to install certain drivers and software. ;)
May
24, 2019
Back
and better than ever with more software than ever! :P
May
17, 2019
That
has been by far the quickest five days of my life! Sadly, a combination of
Calculus 2, English 102, and Psychology has left me deprived of spare time. I
am so darn close to finishing the Windows 98FE post and Display Doctor series.
Snapshots of other XP-compatible browsers have been done for a while but
require further documentation (software on this blog is tested, for the most
part).
I'm
hoping the Micro USB Adapter will arrive soon, so I can at least take snapshots
of future software. There are at least 70 unpublished drafts of software that
still requires testing and documentation. And that's not even counting another
massive list. ;)
More
or less of a note to myself: DejaVu Sans is the font used for
"Mirror" and Ink Free is the font for "Download now" and
May
12, 2019
Nothing
much to say here. Just planning on introducing Display Doctor for DOS, Windows
95/98 (should work on ME also) and a Chromium 56 and 69 browser that's
XP-friendly ;)
Also
plan on adding Retrozilla 2.2 and Opera 12.02 with a TLS 1.2 fix, if possible.
Modern browsing options for older OSes are only getting better than ever,
thanks to third-party support :)
Now,
if I could get my Bay Trail-M PC to run Windows Vista, then I could properly
test a couple ram patches (quite a few exist for x86 Windows) and run
Vista-minimal software.
May
11, 2019
I
have a bit of bad news: I lack a flash drive at the moment so providing
screenshots for 9x software may not be updated for a couple days. I gotta
either obtain a micro USB adapter or flash drive to continue providing
screenshots and documentation of software.
May
9, 2019
After
many hours, I've finally finished removing all URL Shortener links. I
will now focus on introducing XP-friendly browsers :)
Now
only if Blogger's 1mb limitation did not force fewer posts to display...it's a
feature of blogger that I cannot change -.-
Turns
out I was wrong! Just simply insert
a page break in a post before it reaches the data-consuming contents
(images, videos, etc.)!
May
7, 2019
This
is a bit awkward. My old URL Shortener host has deleted all links they had
hosted so many pages that do not include the new download graphic will be
broken. I will fix these once I find time to.
May 6, 2019
Removed
quite a few URL Shortener links. The most popular posts so far have been
cleansed of them :)
But
most between the newest and oldest still need to be re-done. All links that do
not have a spinning Windows ME graphic likely have the URL Shortener. I plan on
making more graphics to come! Below are a couple WIP graphics. Gotta give them
some fixes ;)
May
4, 2019
I am
beginning to remove the URL Shortener links once and for all! :)
All
updated links will have a spinning globe of Windows ME (a personal favorite of
mine).
This
may take a while because I'm on a busy schedule.
April
23, 2019
Oh
brother...I have seen the original URL Shortener I've been using is closing
down. Because of that, I am deciding to hide all posts with broken links soon
enough. When I get time to fix the download links, they will either be a direct
download or use something less intrusive :)
April
22, 2019
Updated
the site logo :)
I
wished I had more time to test software, but life's been busy T_T
April
21, 2019
New
KernelEx updates have been posted onto the site. K-Meleon surely runs smoother
with them! Trying Qt4-based programs will hold much better luck than anything
newer.
Also,
looking back at this site compared to my second one...I really need to give
this site some polish. My blog does not document or describe software as well
as I originally wanted to. Once I retrieve my old Windows ME laptop from a
friend, I should be able to provide more snapshots of software. :)
April
15, 2019
Currently
testing the new KernelEx updates that have yet to be implemented on this blog.
Also fixed glitched social media like buttons and moved the contact us page :)
Plan
to fix the mobile version of this site and the TTS voices blog as well!
April
12, 2019
I
just opened up a new TTS
voice blog! Feel free to check it out!
My
opening of a new blog does not mean I will be leaving this one! I've barely
scratched the surface of 9x-utopia and need to continue refining older posts as
well! I shall never abandon my love of Windows 9x :)
Opening
another blog has exposed me to more design experience as well. Hopefully, I'll
apply better artwork to new and old posts ;)
April
7, 2019
I did
not realize how many unpublished drafts I still have to do! Just need to keep
updating as much as I can! I have yet to publish many system drivers, a
modified version of Opera 12.02 with TLS 1.2 fixed, potential USB 3.0 for
Windows 2000, the Unattended Boot CD for Windows 9x, a download accelerator,
DOS sound setter, and newer kernelex updates! This is only the tip of the
iceberg!
April
6, 2019
A
new KernelEx update has been made! I just need to test and post the files! The
blog is far from dead; I just need to get around to making more graphics and
retrieve my Windows ME laptop.
I wanna thank all visitors for their participation in using my
blog ;)
This
blog was originally a side-project during my final year of high school. I never
expected this blog to help as many people as appears!
February
3, 2019
Wow!
Time just flies by! KernelEx
4.5.2018 update is now available! Apologize for not keeping generally
keeping up, life has been rather busy!
January
22, 2019
Currently
busy with college, but I should be able to include the new KernelEx updates on
this website once the weekend hits :)
January
9, 2019
Added
some mirrors, fixed corrupted DOS patch in the 3-in-1 download, fixed the
Windows 9x VMWare driver mix-up, and making a few graphics. Currently testing
v.18 of KernelEx.
January
5, 2019
Things
are quiet...too quiet. I would implement a visitor counter, but that's not
necessary. Anyhow, I am unsure how often I can update the blog as a college
student. But do not worry! My love for vintage computers will keep me from ever
abandoning this beloved blog! I plan to include multiple download links in
older posts and can hopefully test, screenshot, and include a newer version of
KernelEx updates that fix the .db file error!
A
small list of plans:
Include
new KernelEx version
Add
the Kernel32 for Windows 2000
Add blackwingcat's Chrome
tool and KDW
Add
instructions for softwares dependent on the tools
Include
more Windows 9x utilities
Create
a file archive/backup for older versions of software
September
4, 2018
Wow,
a month has already passed? I better get updating! K-Meleon now works with
youtube and should work properly with the manual updates! Once I am finished
with Windows 9x updates, utilities, etc (which won't be for a while), Windows
2000 shall be next! :)
August
7, 2018
Fixed
about ten broken links so far, all pages with broken links have been drafted
until they are fixed. Palemoon 26.5 for Windows 2000 is now available again!
August
5, 2018
Continuing
to fix more broken download links. Pictures and more information is also being
added on many older posts :)
July
24, 2018
Finally
back after a couple weeks of inactivity! Broken links are currently being fixed!
